Overview

What it is

Stone is heavy and brittle; most slab breakage and many workplace injuries happen during handling. The essentials are slab clamps (scissor or self-locking) for cranes and forklifts, vacuum lifters for slabs and countertops, A-frames and bundle racks for storage, slab trolleys and carts, and lifting beams for blocks.

Every item should be marked with a working load limit (WLL), certified, and inspected regularly.

Before you order

Buying checklist

  1. 1Check the WLL and certification of every clamp and lifter.
  2. 2Vacuum lifters need battery backup and an alarm; don't compromise.
  3. 3Store slabs on A-frames and racks with restraints.
  4. 4Train staff and inspect clamp pads and pins regularly.

Price level: Modest compared with the slabs and injuries it saves.
