A CNC work centre (router) mills, drills and polishes stone using interchangeable tools: sink cut-outs, edge profiles, drainboards, tap holes and 3D carving, work that used to take hours by hand. Tools are changed automatically from a carousel.
Three-axis machines handle most countertop work; 4- and 5-axis machines carve sculpture, fluted panels and complex shapes. Good CAM software and trained operators matter as much as the machine.
