Overview

What it is

A resin line reinforces and fills slabs before polishing. Slabs are dried in an oven, coated with epoxy or polyester resin that penetrates micro-cracks and fills pores, optionally backed with fiberglass mesh, and cured.

It turns fragile, fissured or porous stones such as exotic granites, onyx, travertine and quartzite into sound, polishable slabs, and raises first-choice yield.

Stage
Slab reinforcement before polishing
Process
Dry, resin (often under vacuum), mesh, cure
Resins
Epoxy (granite, quartzite), polyester (marble)
Options
Vacuum impregnation, automatic mesh

Applications

Best used for

  • Granite and quartzite factoriesStandard practice for exotic slabs.
  • Fragile exotics and onyxMakes them safe to handle and ship.
  • Travertine fillingFills holes before honing.
  • Higher yieldMore first-choice slabs per block.

  • Chinese makers close for Lunar New Year; order by early December for spring delivery.
  • Large lines are built to order: expect three to nine months from deposit to commissioning.
  • Plan installation for your own slow season so the changeover doesn't cost production.
